Embu County is located in Eastern Kenya and borders Tharaka Nithi County to the North, Kitui County to the East, Machakos County to the South, Muranga County to the South West, Kirinyaga County to the West, and Meru County to the North West. It covers an area of 2,820.7Km2.
According to the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census, the County has a population of 608,599, a population density of 216 people per km2 and an annual growth rate of 1.7%.
Agriculture is the predominant economic activity in the county with rice being the major cash crop. It is home to Mwea Rice Irrigation which is the largest producer of rice in Kenya.
Embu County has four (4) sub-counties (constituencies) divided into 20 electoral wards.
